Full Time, 37 hours per week (including evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays)
Devon’s Bridges service (formerly Edge of Care) brings together a range of disciplines to work intensively and flexibly (including weekends and evenings) to provide timely and creative support to meet the complex needs of young people and their families and to prevent family breakdown.
The team works intensively and holistically with families, primarily in the home, to support change.
Bridges has two current vacancies for a Family Worker to join either the South or Exeter team.
An introduction to the role and key responsibilities:
As Family Worker you will be part of a locality team working in partnership with other professionals to deliver timely support to families particularly parents and carers.
Utilising the Bridges practice model the Family Worker will provide intensive support to families with multiple and complex needs and subject to a range of other statutory and voluntary interventions. The Family Worker role supports parents and carers with appropriate skilled interventions and practical support, both in response to crisis and for some families, as part of a longer-term support package.
You will need the skills to engage and build meaningful relationships with parents, carers and young people based on restorative principles and provide evidence-based interventions to support sustainable change. You will need to be persistent, tenacious and assertive, working with families who may be resistant to support from a statutory agency.
What sorts of skills do you need?
You should be enthusiastic and motivated to work creatively with parents and other professionals. This work will involve direct contact with families and young people so will require good communication and engagement skills and an ability to work within a dynamic multi agency team.
You will need an ability to listen and use a restorative approach to support and challenge families to make positive changes in their lives.
We are looking for experienced applicants, from a range of backgrounds, who are passionate about achieving the very best outcomes for adolescents and their families.
