An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Family Practitioner with previous experience of whole family working, undertaking early help assessments and chairing Team Around the Family meetings to join the Refugee Resettlement Team, based in the DCC Communities Team.
Refugee resettlement plays a key role in the global response to humanitarian crises: it saves lives and offers stability to refugees most in need of protection. These refugees are prioritised for resettlement by the UK government and are brought legally to the UK. Devon has a proud history of providing protection to those who need it, and resettlement enables us to give the opportunity of a new start to those who have been forced to flee their homes.
An Introduction to the role and key responsibilities
Working to the Refugee Resettlement Manager you will be based within bridging hotel in Exeter and East Devon and need to operate in partnership with other agencies (e.g. Job Centre Plus, police, health, Home Office & housing departments) and respond to enquiries from hotel residents, and those supporting them. You will also lead on the completion of an Early Help assessment for each family. You need to be able to work as part of a small team, but also confident in leading on identified projects/activities.
What sorts of skills do you need?
Previous experience of working with families who have multiple and complex needs and a working knowledge of the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults. You should be empathetic and understanding, but at the same time, persistent, tenacious and assertive. An ability to listen and offer practical solutions, an honest approach, and to support and challenge is needed to enable people to make positive changes in their lives. You will need a flexible approach to working hours, as there is a need to work some evenings and weekends.
