Business Support and Innovation (Projects and Programmes), part of Economy, Enterprise & skills, is a dynamic team delivering grants, business support and sector development across Devon and the Heart of the South West. We are a fast-moving agile team where flexibility, professionalism and practicality are key to maximise opportunities for our local economy in a changing strategic landscape.
Two exciting opportunities to join the team as a Project Assistant have become available.
One role is a fixed contract for 1 year (with the possibility of extension subject to funding). This role will initially support delivery of Agriculture and Food Sector projects and programmes alongside the Project Manager.
Developing support for the Agriculture and Food sector is one of several key areas managed by the team to drive economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic and building long term resilience and sustainable growth. The Agriculture and Food sector projects have ambitious targets and timescales and therefore we are looking for someone with excellent organisational, communication and time management skills and a strong drive to achieve success. An understanding of the challenges and priorities for the current food system, supply chains, agri-tech and agricultural transition would be useful for the initial work portfolio. In addition, strong knowledge of the economic landscape in Devon and the current challenges and future opportunities is essential.
The second post is a 6 month fixed term post to 31st March 2023 (with possibility of extension subject to funding).
This exciting position will undertake a variety of tasks to drive forward business support engagement and activity in Somerset.
The role will be the point of contact for Somerset Businesses proactively contacting businesses to assess their business support needs and growth potential, following-up with businesses and proactively account manage growth potential businesses. Undertaking business diagnostics and directing them to further support. This broad ranging role requires producing and maintaining business client records, contributing to the development of a knowledge bank of business support options and information, supporting marketing activity, and attendance at outreach events and workshops as required to support business engagement and face-to-face diagnostic activity.

Although initially the work will be within the food and agricultural business sector, a variety of projects and programmes are delivered by the team and the focus of the role may change over time. The successful candidate will be required to be adaptable, have flexibility to prioritise work and a willingness to embrace a forward thinking and dynamic team environment.
